FRONT is thrilled to partner with Art Therapy Studio–the oldest independent art therapy center in the country–on a series of free, public workshops, generously supported by the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities. These workshops are inspired by the themes of the FRONT 2022 triennial, Oh, Gods of Dust and Rainbows, which embraces art as an agent of transformation, a mode of healing, and a therapeutic process.
Workshops will be facilitated by Gabrielle Cooper, MA, a trained art therapist, and will illuminate the positive effects of art-making for wellness.
Sunday, August 7, 2022 – Workshop 1: Collage of Values
Participants will arrange magazine cut-outs that symbolize their individual or family values to create a collage. Values may include traditions, love, respect, sharing, or communication. Individuals will be able to keep their collage as a reminder of what’s important in their lives. Suitable for all ages. Masks required.
Sunday, August 28, 2022 – Workshop 2: Thank You, Body
With all the societal pressures and opinions on what bodies should look like and be able to do, we do not always appreciate how helpful and beautiful our bodies truly are. Participants will outline a body cutout, write what they appreciate about their bodies (capabilities and attributes), then decorate it. Suitable for all ages.
Saturday, September 24 – Workshop 3: Better Habits Paper Weaving
Participants will design an image about a habit or behavior they would like to change. They will cut it, then weave it into a pre-cut paper where they will write their preferred coping skills, habits, and behaviors. Adults only.
